Exodus 28 for Kids

God designs special, beautiful clothes for the priests — and one part shows just how much God's people mean to Him.

Today's Story

God's people needed priests — special helpers who would serve in God's tent and bring the people's prayers to God. So God designed beautiful clothes for the high priest to wear.

There were robes of blue and purple and gold, and a special crown that said “Holy to the Lord.” But the most beautiful part was a piece worn over the priest's heart, called the breastpiece. On it sparkled twelve jewels — one for each of the twelve tribes of Israel — with each tribe's name carved into a stone.

So whenever the priest went into God's presence, he carried the names of all God's people right over his heart. Every single person was there, close to his heart, as he stood before God.

It's a beautiful picture: God's people are carried close to the heart when someone comes before God for them. And today, Jesus does that for us — He carries our names on His heart.
