Exodus 33 for Kids

For Kids · 4 min with a grown-up

After the golden calf, Moses wants one thing more than anything: for God to stay close. And he asks to see God's glory.

Today's Story

After the sad mistake of the golden calf, Moses wanted to make sure of one thing above all: that God would still go with His people. “If Your presence doesn't go with us,” Moses told God, “then don't send us at all. How will anyone know we belong to You, unless You go with us?”

And God gave a beautiful answer: “My presence WILL go with you. And I will give you rest.” God wasn't giving up on His people.

The Bible says God spoke with Moses “as a friend speaks with a friend.” Imagine that — talking with God like a close friend!

Then Moses asked something bold: “Please — show me Your glory! Let me see You!” God said, “No one can see My full glory and live — it's too bright, too great. But I'll put you in the cleft of a rock and cover you with My hand as My goodness passes by. Then I'll let you see a little.”

Moses got to glimpse just the edge of God's glory — and it was more than enough. God is greater and more wonderful than we can even imagine — and He still wants to be our friend.
