Some leaders came to ask God a question — but their hearts were full of other things. God gently showed them that He wanted their whole heart back.
Today's Story
One day some of the leaders came and sat down in front of Ezekiel. They wanted to ask God a question.
But God knew something about them. Their hearts were crowded. They had let other things sneak in and take His place — things they cared about more than they cared about God. It was as if God had been pushed off to the side of their own hearts.
God was not angry in a mean way. He was sad, the way you feel sad when someone you love forgets all about you. So God said something kind but honest: “Come back to Me with your whole heart. Don't leave just a little corner for Me. I want all of you.”
And then God said the most wonderful thing of all. “If you come back to Me, you will be My people, and I will be your God.”
That is what God wanted the whole time — not just to answer a question, but to have their hearts close to His again. God does not want to be one small thing on a crowded shelf. He wants to be first. And the amazing part is, He wants us, all of us, that much too.
A Big Word
Memory Verse
Talk About It
- What are some things you love a lot — toys, games, friends, snacks? Is there room for those things AND for God to be first?
- God wanted the leaders' whole heart, not just a little corner. What do you think it looks like to love God with your whole heart?
- God said, “You will be My people, and I will be your God.” How does it feel to know God wants to be that close to you?
