Ezekiel 19 for Kids

For Kids · 3 min with a grown-up

Not every song is a happy one. God gave Ezekiel a sad song to sing — the kind you sing when you miss something that used to be wonderful.

Today's Story

God told Ezekiel, “Sing a sad song for the leaders of My people.” A sad song is one you sing when your heart is heavy. So Ezekiel sang.

The song started like a story about a mother lion. She had strong young cubs, and she was so proud of them. They grew up brave and powerful. But one cub wandered into danger far from home, and the family was left missing him.

Then the song changed pictures. It told about a vine — a beautiful, healthy plant growing right by the water. It had grown tall and full and strong. Everyone who walked by could see how lovely it was.

But the vine had been pulled up and moved to a dry, thirsty place with no water. And there, far from home, the vine wilted. The branch that had been so strong grew weak.

It was a sad song, and it was meant to be. The leaders had made wrong choices, and now the people were far from home and missing all that used to be.

But here is the part to hold onto: a sad song is never the end of God's book. God let His people cry — and He was already planning the day He would bring them home and give them a true King who would never let them down.

A Big Word

Talk About It

  1. What is something that has made you feel sad lately? It is okay to say it out loud.
  2. The song told God exactly how sad the people felt. Do you think God wants to hear about your sad feelings too? Why?
  3. A sad song was not the end of God's story. Can you think of a time something hard got better later on?
