Ezekiel 20 for Kids

For Kids · 4 min with a grown-up

Some of the leaders came to Ezekiel to ask God a question. Instead of a short answer, God told them a long story — the story of how patient He had been with their whole family.

Today's Story

Some leaders sat down in front of Ezekiel. “We want to ask God something,” they said.

So God told them a story — the long story of their own family, going all the way back.

“Long ago,” God said, “your great-great-grandparents were stuck in a faraway land, and I rescued them. I led them out with My own hand. I gave them good rules to keep them safe and happy. I gave them a special rest day so they would always remember Me.”

“But they kept forgetting. They wandered off and chased after things that could never love them back. Still, I did not give up on them. Again and again I was patient. I kept them alive in the desert. I kept My promises, even when they forgot theirs.”

Then God said something amazing. “I stayed faithful for the sake of My own name — because I am the kind of God who keeps His word, no matter what.”

And God was still not finished being good to them. “One day,” He promised, “I will gather My people from every place they have been scattered. I will bring them home. And they will know that I am the Lord.”

The whole long story had one thread running through it: God never, ever stopped being faithful.

A Big Word

Memory Verse

Talk About It

  1. Has someone ever stayed kind to you even when you forgot something or messed up? How did that feel?
  2. God remembered His people even when they forgot Him. What helps you remember God during a busy day?
  3. God promised to gather His people and bring them home. Who is someone you are glad God is bringing close to Him?
