Sometimes a warning is the kindest thing someone can give you. In this chapter, God gives His people a very serious warning — because He loves them too much to stay quiet.
Today's Story
Think about a smoke alarm. It is loud. It is not a fun sound. But it is one of the kindest sounds in the house, because it shouts, “Wake up! Get to safety!” before anyone gets hurt.
In this chapter, God gave His people a warning like that — a loud, serious alarm. His people had been doing things that hurt each other and turning away from Him, and they kept ignoring the gentle reminders. So God spoke louder.
God told Ezekiel to show the people how serious He was. He even told Ezekiel to sigh out loud and look sad in front of everyone, so they would ask, “Why are you so upset?” And Ezekiel could tell them: trouble was coming, and it was time to stop and turn around.
God was not being mean. A parent who yells “Stop!” before a child runs into the street is not being mean — they are being loving and serious at the same time. That is what God was doing.
And tucked inside the warning was a promise about the future. God said the kingdom would one day belong to the One it truly belongs to — a true and good King who would set everything right.
God's warnings always come from love. He would rather shout than let the people He loves keep heading toward danger.
A Big Word
Talk About It
- Has a grown-up ever called out “Stop!” or “Be careful!” to keep you safe? What happened?
- Why do you think God would rather give a loud warning than stay quiet while people head toward trouble?
- God promised a true King who makes everything right. What is one thing in the world you would love that King to fix?
