God gives Ezekiel a sad song to sing about Egypt and its proud king — a song about how even the mightiest power comes to an end.
Today's Story
This time God did not give Ezekiel a happy song. He gave him a sad one — the kind of song you sing when something big comes to an end.
The song was about the king of Egypt. In the song, God pictured him as a giant sea-monster. The monster splashed around in the water, churning it up, stirring up mud, acting like nothing could ever stop him. “I am the strongest!” the monster seemed to say. “Look at me thrash about!”
But God said, “I am going to throw My net over you.” And just like a fisherman's net scoops up even the biggest fish, God's net was bigger than the monster. The splashing stopped. The thrashing stopped. The proud sea-monster was caught.
It was a sad song, because it is sad when someone is so proud they forget God for their whole life. But the song teaches us something important and even comforting: no power in this world lasts forever. Big kings end. Big armies end. Big monsters end.
Only One never ends. God was here before the seas, and He will be here long after the last wave. He is the One who is truly forever — and He is the One who holds the whole ocean in His hand.
A Big Word
Memory Verse
Talk About It
- Have you ever had something fun come to an end — like a party or a vacation? How did that feel?
- The proud king acted like he would last forever, but only God does. Why is it good news that GOD is the One who never ends?
- The sea-monster thought he was too big to be caught. What is something that feels really big to you that God is still bigger than?
