Ezra is ready to lead a big group of families on the long road home to Jerusalem. But the road is dangerous — so before they go, Ezra stops to do the most important thing first.
Today's Story
It was time to go home to Jerusalem. Ezra gathered all the families who would travel with him — lots of people, with names that filled a whole long list.
They camped beside a river to get ready. But Ezra had a worry. The road ahead was long and dangerous. There were robbers out there. And Ezra was leading families, and children, and lots of gold and silver for God's house.
Now, Ezra had already told the king, “Our God takes good care of everyone who trusts Him.” So Ezra felt he couldn't turn around and ask the king for soldiers. Instead, he would ask God.
So Ezra told everyone, “Let's not eat for a little while. Let's pray.” And together, by the river, they asked God to keep them safe the whole way home.
Then they set out. Day after day, mile after mile, God watched over them. He kept the robbers away. He kept the gold safe. He kept the children safe.
And at last they walked into Jerusalem — safe and sound, just as Ezra had trusted God they would be.

Talk About It
- When was the last time YOU felt a little scared? What happened?
- Ezra prayed BEFORE the scary trip, not just during it. Why do you think it helps to ask God for help before something hard even starts?
- God kept Ezra's whole group safe. What is one thing you can ask God to help you with this week?
