God's people had been far from home for a long time. Now a teacher named Ezra is getting ready to make the long journey back to Jerusalem — and he is bringing God's word with him.
Today's Story
There was a man named Ezra. He lived far from home, in a country called Babylon. But Ezra loved God, and Ezra loved God's word.
Every day Ezra studied the things God had said. He read them. He thought about them. He did what they said. And then he taught them to other people, so they could love God's word too.
One day Ezra decided to go back to Jerusalem, the city of God's people. It was a very long trip — many weeks of walking.
The king of that land liked Ezra. So the king wrote him a letter and said, “Go! And take gold and silver to help God's house. Take whatever you need.”
How could a teacher get a king's help like that? The Bible says it was because God's good hand was on Ezra. God was watching over him the whole way.
So Ezra packed up and set out for Jerusalem, with God's word in his heart and God's hand over his journey. And when he got there, he was ready to teach God's people how to follow God again.
A Big Word
Memory Verse
Talk About It
- Ezra read God's word, did what it said, AND taught it to others. Which of those three do you think is the hardest? Why?
- Who has taught YOU something about God? What did they teach you?
- Ezra learned something good first, then shared it. What is one good thing you could teach a friend or a little brother or sister this week?
