Genesis 43 for Kids

For Kids · 4 min with a grown-up

The food runs out again, and this time the brothers must bring young Benjamin to Egypt — and Joseph can barely hold back his tears at the sight of him.

Today's Story

Soon the family ran out of food again. They had to go back to Egypt — but the governor (Joseph) had said, “Don't come back without your youngest brother.”

Jacob was terrified to send Benjamin. He'd already lost Joseph and couldn't bear to lose another son. But there was no other way to get food. So one of the brothers, Judah, promised to keep Benjamin safe with his own life. Jacob let them go, praying, “May God keep you safe.”

When the brothers arrived in Egypt with Benjamin, Joseph invited them all to his house for a feast! The brothers were nervous, but Joseph treated them with kindness.

And when Joseph saw his little brother Benjamin — for the first time in all those years — he was so overcome with love that he had to rush out of the room to cry. Then he washed his face, came back, and held himself together.

Joseph sat them all down to eat, and he gave Benjamin five times more food than anyone else! The brothers feasted and were amazed. Something good was happening, even though they didn't understand it yet.
