Old Jacob is about to do something huge — move his whole family to Egypt. But first, God speaks to him in the night with a promise.
Today's Story
The news was almost too good for old Jacob to believe: Joseph was alive, and a ruler in Egypt! Jacob decided to take his whole family and go see his son before he died.
On the way, Jacob stopped to worship God. And that night, God spoke to him: “Jacob, Jacob! Don't be afraid to go down to Egypt. I will go down to Egypt with you. And I will surely bring you back again. Joseph will be right there with you to the end.”
So Jacob's whole family — all of them, with their flocks and everything they owned — set out for Egypt.
And then came the moment Jacob had dreamed of for twenty-two long years. Joseph rode out to meet his father. When he saw him, Joseph threw his arms around his father's neck and wept and wept. Jacob held his lost son — found again — and said, “Now I can be at peace, because I have seen your face, and you're alive.”
The family was together again at last. God had kept every promise.

Talk About It
- God told Jacob, “Don't be afraid… I will go with you.” When you have to go somewhere new or scary, how does it help to know God goes with you?
- Joseph and Jacob hugged and cried after 22 years apart. Have you ever been away from someone you love for a long time? What was the reunion like?
- God kept His promise to bring the family together. What's a promise of God you're waiting on?
