This chapter is a long list of names — but tucked inside is one man whose story is different from all the rest.
Today's Story
Genesis 5 is like a big family tree. It lists the people who lived after Adam — fathers and sons and grandsons, going on and on. Most of them lived a very long time, and at the end of each name come the same sad words: “and then he died.”
But one name is different. A man named Enoch. The Bible says Enoch “walked with God.” Day after day, year after year, Enoch stayed close to God — like two good friends taking a walk together.
And Enoch's story doesn't end with “and then he died.” Instead it says: Enoch walked with God, and then he was gone, because God took him away. God loved being with Enoch so much that He simply brought him home to be with Him!
In a long list of people who came and went, Enoch stands out for one reason: he walked with God every single day.
A Big Word
Memory Verse
Talk About It
- Enoch “walked with God” every day. What's one way you could stay close to God each day?
- Walking with someone means going the same direction together. How do we make sure we're going God's direction?
- Out of all those names, Enoch is remembered for being close to God. What would you like to be remembered for?
