Habakkuk was one of God's messengers. He looked around at all the unfair things happening and he had a big question for God — and he was brave enough to ask it out loud.
Today's Story
Habakkuk looked around at the world, and his heart hurt. People were being mean. The strong were picking on the weak. Nobody seemed to get in trouble for doing wrong.
So Habakkuk talked to God about it. He didn't use fancy words. He just said what he felt.
“God, how long do I have to call for help before You listen? I look and I see people hurting each other. Why don't You DO something?”
Habakkuk wasn't being rude. He was being honest. He believed God was good, so the mean stuff didn't make sense to him. He wanted God to fix it.
And God answered. God said, “Watch. I am already doing something — something so big you would not believe it if I told you. I have not forgotten. I see it all.”
But God's answer surprised Habakkuk. It wasn't the easy answer he wanted. So Habakkuk had even MORE questions. He went right back to God and kept talking.
And here is the good part: God let him. God was not angry that Habakkuk asked. God listened to every word.
A Big Word
Memory Verse
Talk About It
- Has something ever happened that felt really unfair to you? What was it?
- Habakkuk told God exactly how he felt. Do you think it is okay to tell God when you are sad or upset? Why?
- God said, “I am already doing something, even when you cannot see it.” Is it hard to wait when you cannot see what is happening yet?
