Haggai 2 for Kids

For Kids · 4 min with a grown-up

God's people were building His house again — but it looked so small that some of them felt sad. So God sent them a message to cheer them on.

Today's Story

The work on God's house was going. Stone by stone, the walls were rising again. But then some of the people started to feel sad.

The oldest people remembered the very first house of God, a long time ago. It had been so big and so beautiful! And this new one? It looked small. Plain. Not nearly as grand.

Some of them sighed. “It's not as good as before,” they whispered. Their arms felt tired. Their hearts felt droopy.

So God sent Haggai again, with words just for them. “Be strong,” God said. “Be strong, Zerubbabel. Be strong, Joshua. Be strong, all you people. Be strong and get to work. For I am with you!”

Then God told them a secret about the future. “Don't look at how small this house seems today,” He said. “One day I will fill it with something more wonderful than all the silver and gold in the world. And in this place I will give My people peace.”

The people stood up a little taller. Their tired arms found new strength. The house didn't have to be the biggest. It just had to be God's — and God was with them, and God had good things coming.

So they kept building. Day after day. Strong.

A Big Word

Memory Verse

Talk About It

  1. Has anything ever felt too big or too hard for you to finish — a chore, a school job, a tall climb? What was it?
  2. The people felt sad because their work looked small. When have you felt like what you made or did wasn't good enough?
  3. God said, “Be strong, for I am with you.” How could remembering that God is with you help you keep going this week?
