For Kids · 4 min with a grown-up
In this chapter God opens up His heart and shows us how He really feels about His people. It is one of the most tender pictures of God's love in the whole Bible.
Today's Story
God wanted His people to know how much He loved them. So He told them a memory — the way a parent remembers when their child was small.
“When you were just a little child,” God said, “I loved you. I called you My own. I'm the One who taught you to walk. I held your little arms. When you fell, I picked you up.”
God remembered lifting His people up close to His cheek, the way you hold a baby. He remembered bending down to feed them. Every step they took, He had been right there, holding on.
But His people had grown up and wandered far away. They forgot the One who taught them to walk. And do you know what God did? He didn't stop loving them. Not for one second.
“How could I ever give you up?” God said. “My heart turns over inside Me. My love is too big. I will not let you go.”
That is how God feels about His people — like the gentlest, most loving parent you can imagine, who would cross the whole world to bring His child home.
A Big Word
Memory Verse
Talk About It
- Who taught you to do something hard, like walking or riding a bike? How did they help you when you fell down?
- God said He held His people close to His cheek when they were little. How does it feel to know God holds you close like that?
- Even when His people wandered far away, God said, “I will never give you up.” What does that tell you about how God feels about you, even on your worst day?
