Hosea 12 for Kids

For Kids · 3 min with a grown-up

God reminds His people about their great-grandfather Jacob — a man who once held on to God and would not let go. God wanted His people to hold on like that again.

Today's Story

God's people had wandered far, chasing things that could never love them back. But God did not want to scold them and walk away. He wanted to remind them of who they were.

So God told them a story about their great-grandfather, Jacob.

Long ago, Jacob met God one dark night. And Jacob held on tight. He wrapped his arms around God and would not let go. “I won't let go,” Jacob said, “until You bless me!” And God blessed him. Jacob found out that holding on to God was the best thing he ever did.

“Be like Jacob,” God told His people. “Come back to Me. Hold on to love. Be fair and kind. And trust Me, always.”

It was an invitation, soft and warm. God was saying, “You don't have to keep wandering. Come home and hold on to Me. I am still here, and I still want you.”

God never gets tired of inviting His people back. He just keeps holding out His hand.

A Big Word

Memory Verse

Talk About It

  1. Have you ever held on to something so tightly you didn't want to let go — a balloon string, a puppy, someone's hand? Why didn't you want to let go?
  2. Jacob held on to God and would not let go. What do you think it means to “hold on” to God in your own life?
  3. God keeps inviting His people to come home to Him. How does it feel to know God always leaves the door open for you?
