James is a letter — a real one, written long ago to help God's family love God and love each other.
It is full of little ways to show that we trust God in the things we do every day.
Today's Story
James loved Jesus very much. So he wrote a letter to God's family — people who lived far apart, in lots of different places. He wanted to help them be brave and kind, even on hard days.
“When hard things come,” James wrote, “don't give up. Hard days can make you strong and patient, the way exercise makes you grow.”
Then James shared a wonderful secret. “If you don't know what to do,” he said, “just ask God! He gives wisdom to everyone who asks. He won't be grumpy about it. He loves to help.”
James also gave God's family a gentle reminder about how to treat each other. “Be quick to listen,” he said. “Be slow to speak. And be slow to get angry.”
That means: open your ears first. Wait before you talk. And take a deep breath before you get mad.
Last of all, James said, “Don't just hear good words and walk away. Do them!” A boy who hears “be kind” and then shares his snack — that boy is really listening.
A Big Word

Talk About It
- Think about today. Was there a moment you talked first when it would have been better to listen first?
- When something makes you angry, what helps you slow down before you do or say something?
- James says we can ask God when we don't know what to do. What is one thing you'd like to ask Him about?
