James 4 for Kids

For Kids · 3 min with a grown-up

James keeps writing his letter to help God's family get along and stay close to God.

Today he talks about why we fight — and a much better way to live.

Today's Story

James noticed something sad in God's family. People were quarreling and fighting. So in his letter he asked a gentle question: “Why do you fight?”

“You fight,” he wrote, “because you want something, and you try to grab it your own way.” It is like two kids pulling on the same toy, each shouting, “Mine!”

Then James shared a better way. “Instead of grabbing,” he said, “you can just ask God. He loves to give good things to His children.”

And James wrote one of the kindest promises in the whole letter: “Come close to God, and He will come close to you.”

That means God is never far away. When we turn toward Him — even a little — He is already turning toward us.

“Be humble,” James said. That means putting others first and letting God lead. “When you make yourself low and gentle, God lifts you up.”

So instead of fighting to get our own way, we can come close to God and let Him take care of us.
