James 5 for Kids

For Kids · 3 min with a grown-up

This is the last part of James's letter to God's family.

He ends with two gentle gifts: be patient, and always talk to God.

Today's Story

James was almost done with his letter. He had one more thing to teach God's family about waiting and praying.

“Be patient,” he wrote. “Think of a farmer. He plants a tiny seed, then waits and waits for the rain and the sun. He can't rush it! But the good crop comes.”

“You can be patient like that,” James said, “because you know God is always good, and He is coming back one day to make everything right.”

Then James gave a wonderful list about talking to God. “Is anyone sad? Pray. Is anyone happy? Sing a thank-You song! Is anyone sick? Ask others to pray for you.”

In other words, whatever you are feeling — happy, sad, or hurting — you can always talk to God about it.

And James promised something amazing: “When God's people pray, big things happen. Your prayers really matter!”

So James ended his letter with hope: keep loving each other, keep waiting on God, and keep talking to Him every single day.

Memory Verse

Talk About It

  1. How did you feel today — happy, sad, or something else? Did you talk to God about it?
  2. A farmer waits a long time for his seeds to grow. What is something you are waiting for right now?
  3. James says our prayers really matter. Who is someone you'd like to pray for tonight?
