Jeremiah 48 for Kids

For Kids · 3 min with a grown-up

God gave Jeremiah a message about Moab, a country right next door to his own.

Today's Story

Moab was a comfortable country. Its people had plenty to eat, sweet grapes in the fields, and quiet, easy days. Life was good in Moab.

But over time the people of Moab grew very puffed up. “Look how great we are!” they said. “We did all this ourselves. We do not need God. We do not need anybody.” They had forgotten that every good thing they had was a gift.

So God gave Jeremiah a message for Moab. “Being puffed up like that is like standing on a wobbly chair,” God was saying. “When you think you are too big to need anyone, you are about to tip over. A hard time is coming.”

Jeremiah did not say this to be mean. He said it the way you warn a friend, “Careful — you're going to fall!”

And here is the most wonderful part. At the very end of the message, God made a gentle promise: “One day I will make things good for Moab again.” Even when He had to warn them, God had not stopped loving them. He never does.

A Big Word

Talk About It

  1. When something goes really well for you, do you like to brag about it, or thank the people who helped you? Why?
  2. Moab forgot that all its good things were gifts. What is one good thing in your life that is really a gift from God?
  3. Even when God had to give a warning, He promised to be kind to Moab again. How does it feel to know God's kindness never runs out?
