Jeremiah 47 for Kids

For Kids · 3 min with a grown-up

This is a short message Jeremiah gave about the Philistines, a people who lived right beside the big blue sea.

Today's Story

By the edge of the sea lived a people called the Philistines. They had busy towns and sandy beaches and waves rolling in all day long.

God gave Jeremiah a message for them. He used a word-picture they would understand — a picture of water.

“A hard time is coming,” God said. “It will rise up like a river after a big rain — rushing in fast, all at once, the way a flood comes up over the land.”

The Philistines had not been listening to God. Jeremiah was warning them, the way a kind grown-up shouts, “Look out!” when they see something coming.

Here is the good news tucked inside a scary picture: when waters rise, the safest thing to do is run to higher ground. And God is the highest, safest place of all. When trouble comes rushing in, He is the strong rock we can climb up on and hold tight.

God is never washed away. And neither are the people who hold on to Him.

A Big Word

Talk About It

  1. Have you ever been splashed by a big wave or surprised by a hard rain? What did it feel like?
  2. When water rises, people run to a high, safe place. Where do you run when YOU feel scared or upset?
  3. God is like the highest, safest hill of all. What is one worry you could hand to Him today so He can keep you safe?
