Jeremiah 50 for Kids

For Kids · 4 min with a grown-up

For a long time God's people had been living far from home, in a strong city called Babylon. In this chapter God makes a big promise about setting them free.

Today's Story

Babylon was a huge and powerful city. It had thick walls and a mighty army, and it had carried God's people far away from their homes. The people of God felt like little lost sheep, a long, long way from where they belonged.

But God had not forgotten them. Not for one second.

God gave Jeremiah a message full of hope. “Babylon may look big and strong,” God said, “but I am stronger. The day is coming when I will set My people free.”

“I will lead My people back home,” God promised, “like a good shepherd bringing his sheep to green grass. They will be happy and full and safe again.”

Then God said the most wonderful thing of all. “And every wrong thing they have done — I will wash it all the way clean. People will look and look for it, and they will not be able to find even one bit of it. It will be completely gone.”

God called Himself their Rescuer — a strong one who stands up for the people He loves and brings them safely home. The biggest city in the world could not keep God's people away from Him.

A Big Word

Talk About It

  1. Have you ever felt far away from home, or lost in a big place like a store? What did it feel like when someone found you?
  2. God promised to wash His people's wrongs so clean that nobody could find them. How does it feel to know God can forgive like that — all the way?
  3. God is a strong Rescuer who comes for the people He loves. When you need help, who comes for you? How is God like that, only even bigger?
