Jeremiah 51 for Kids

For Kids · 3 min with a grown-up

Jeremiah was a prophet — one of God's messengers. For years he told God's people what God wanted them to hear, even when it was hard.

Today's Story

God's people had been carried far away from home to a big, proud city called Babylon. Babylon was strong. Its walls were thick. Its army was huge. The people who lived there thought no one could ever stop them.

But God saw everything. He saw how Babylon had pushed His people around and acted like it could do whatever it wanted. And God gave Jeremiah a message, almost like a song.

“The proud city looks like it will last forever,” God said. “But it will not. I am bigger than the biggest walls. I made the whole earth and the wide sky. No city is too strong for Me.”

Then God said the most tender part of all. “Do not be afraid, My people. I have not forgotten you. You are not lost to Me. I see exactly where you are.”

God promised that one day He would gather His people up, like a shepherd gathering sheep, and bring them all the way home. Babylon would not have the last word. God would.

It was a hard message wrapped around a soft promise: the proud do not win in the end, and God always remembers the ones He loves.

A Big Word

Memory Verse

Talk About It

  1. Have you ever felt far away from home — maybe at a new place, or a sleepover, or somewhere that felt too big? What helped you feel okay?
  2. God told His people, “I have not forgotten you.” How does it feel to know God always knows exactly where you are?
  3. Babylon thought it was too strong for anyone. Why is it better to lean on God's strength than to act like we are big enough on our own?
