After sitting in silence with his friends, Job finally speaks. And what comes out is just how sad he feels.
Today's Story
For seven days, Job had not said a word. He just sat in his sadness. Then, at last, Job opened his mouth and let all his hurt come out.
Job was so sad that he wished he had never even been born. “Why is there light for people who are in pain?” he asked. He felt heavy, like a dark cloud was sitting on him. He could not sleep. He could not stop crying.
Job did not pretend everything was okay. He did not put on a happy face. He told the truth about how much he was hurting inside.
And here is something wonderful: God did not get angry at Job for being honest. God can handle our biggest, saddest, most jumbled-up feelings. We never have to hide them from Him.
When you are sad, you can do exactly what Job did. You can tell God all about it — even the parts that feel too big for words.
A Big Word
Talk About It
- What does your body feel like when you are really sad? Maybe a lump in your throat, or tears, or a heavy tummy?
- Job told God exactly how he felt. Is it ever hard for you to tell someone when you are sad? Why?
- Did you know God wants to hear about your sad feelings too, not just your happy ones? How does that make you feel?
