Job 2 for Kids

For Kids · 3 min with a grown-up

Job already had a very hard day. Now things get harder still. But Job keeps holding on to God — and his friends come to help.

Today's Story

After Job lost so much, something else hard happened. Job got very, very sick. From the top of his head to the bottom of his feet, his whole body hurt. He felt so bad that he sat down in the ashes by himself.

Job's wife saw how much he was hurting. She said, “Are you still holding on to God after all this?”

But Job said, “We are glad to take good things from God. Should we not also take the hard things?” Even while he hurt, Job would not turn away from God.

Job had three friends — Eliphaz, Bildad, and Zophar. When they heard their friend was hurting, they came from far away to be with him. When they first saw him, they hardly knew him. They were so sad they cried.

So they sat down on the ground next to Job. They sat with him for seven days and seven nights. They did not say one word. They just stayed close, so Job would not be alone.

A Big Word

Talk About It

  1. When you are sad, do you like someone to talk to you, or do you like someone to just sit quietly with you?
  2. Job's friends came from far away to be with him. Who is someone who shows up for you when you are having a hard time?
  3. Is there someone you know who is sad or sick right now? How could you be a good friend to them this week?
