Job 1 for Kids

For Kids · 4 min with a grown-up

Job is a book about a good man who has a very hard year. It asks a big question: when sad things happen, can we still trust God?

Today's Story

There was a man named Job. He loved God with his whole heart. He had a big family, lots of land, and more sheep and camels than he could count. He was the richest, kindest man in all the land. Every single morning he prayed for his children, one by one.

God looked down at Job and was glad. “Have you seen my servant Job?” God said. “There is no one else like him on the earth.”

Then one terrible day, almost everything Job had was taken away. His animals were gone. His riches were gone. And worst of all, the children he prayed for every morning were gone too. In one day, Job lost nearly everything he loved.

Job was so very sad. He fell down on the ground. But do you know what he did next? He worshiped God anyway.

He said, “The Lord gave, and the Lord has taken away. May the name of the Lord be praised.”

Even on the hardest day of his life, Job still held on to God.

A Big Word

Memory Verse

Talk About It

  1. Think about a day when you felt really sad. What helps you feel a little better when your heart is hurting?
  2. Job was sad and he still talked to God. Do you think it's okay to be sad and to love God at the same time?
  3. What is one good thing God has given you that you are thankful for today?
