Joshua 19 for Kids

For Kids · 4 min with a grown-up

After giving everyone else their home, Joshua finally receives his own — and shows us what a true leader looks like.

Today's Story

The dividing of the land was almost finished. One by one, each tribe had received their portion — a home of their own. The leaders had worked hard to make sure everyone got their fair share.

And then, at the very end, after EVERYONE else had been taken care of, it was finally Joshua's turn. The great leader who had guided all the people, who had trusted God through every battle — he received his own town last of all. Joshua had put everyone else first, and himself last.

That's the heart of a true leader who loves God. Joshua didn't grab the best land for himself or push to the front of the line. He served the people first and took his own portion last. He asked for one town, and the people gladly gave it to him.

Jesus taught this same beautiful lesson: the greatest are the ones who serve, and the first will be last. When we put others first, we're following the example of godly leaders like Joshua — and of Jesus Himself.

A Big Word

Talk About It

  1. Joshua took his own portion last, after everyone else. Why is putting others first a sign of a good leader?
  2. Jesus said the first will be last and the last will be first. What does it look like to put others ahead of ourselves?
  3. Joshua could have grabbed the best for himself, but he didn't. When is it hard to let others go first?
