Luke 1 for Kids

An angel named Gabriel brings a young woman named Mary the most surprising news anyone has ever heard.

Today's Story

In a little town called Nazareth lived a young woman named Mary. One day, the angel Gabriel appeared right in front of her! Mary was startled.

“Don't be afraid, Mary,” Gabriel said. “God is very pleased with you. You are going to have a baby — a son — and you will name Him Jesus. He will be great. He will be called the Son of the Most High, and He will be a King whose kingdom never, ever ends!”

Mary was amazed. “How can this be?” she asked. Gabriel smiled. “Nothing is impossible with God.”

Mary could have said no. It was a big, surprising thing. But Mary trusted God. She said, “I am the Lord's servant. May it happen to me just as you said.”

Then Mary hurried to visit her older cousin Elizabeth, who was ALSO going to have a special baby — a boy named John, who would grow up to help get everyone ready for Jesus. The moment Mary said hello, baby John leaped for joy inside Elizabeth!

And Mary sang a happy song to God: “My soul praises the Lord! He has done great things for me, and holy is His name.”
