It's Sunday morning. Jesus' friends are still so sad — until they discover the tomb is empty, and the best news in history begins to spread.
Today's Story
Early Sunday morning, some women went to Jesus' tomb with sweet-smelling spices. But when they got there — the big stone was rolled away, and the tomb was EMPTY!
Two shining angels appeared. “Why are you looking among the dead for the living? He isn't here — He has risen! Remember how He told you?” The women ran to tell the others, but it seemed too good to be true.
That same day, two of Jesus' friends were walking sadly to a village called Emmaus, talking about everything that had happened. A stranger joined them and walked along, explaining how the whole Bible had pointed to all of this. But they had no idea it was Jesus!
When they stopped for dinner, the stranger took the bread and broke it — and suddenly their eyes were opened. It was JESUS! And then He disappeared from their sight.
“Our hearts were burning while He talked with us!” they said. They jumped up and ran all the way back to tell the others: “It's true! Jesus is alive! We saw Him!”
And then Jesus Himself appeared among all His friends. “Peace be with you,” He said. He was really, truly alive. The sadness had turned into the greatest joy the world has ever known.
A Big Word
Memory Verse
Talk About It
- The two friends were so sad, and Jesus walked right beside them without them knowing. Do you think Jesus might be closer to us than we realize when we're sad?
- Their “hearts were burning” as Jesus talked. Have you ever felt excited and warm inside hearing about Jesus?
- The friends couldn't keep the good news to themselves. Who would you run to tell that Jesus is alive?
