Mark 1 for Kids

For Kids · 4 min with a grown-up

Mark's Gospel starts fast — no baby stories, just Jesus stepping onto the scene and everything beginning to happen.

Today's Story

Mark's book about Jesus begins with a man named John, out in the desert, telling everyone: “Get ready! Someone greater than me is coming!” John baptized people in the river as they turned back to God.

Then Jesus came. And when Jesus was baptized in the river, the sky opened, God's Spirit came down like a dove, and a voice from heaven said, “You are My Son, whom I love. I'm so pleased with You!”

Jesus began traveling and telling people good news: “God's kingdom is here! Turn to God and believe!”

One day, walking by the sea, Jesus saw some fishermen — Simon, Andrew, James, and John. “Come, follow Me,” Jesus said. And right away, they dropped their nets and followed Him!

Everywhere Jesus went, amazing things happened. He taught with such power that people were amazed. He healed sick people. He helped hurting people. Crowds came from everywhere. Jesus had come, and nothing would be the same.
