Micah 6 for Kids

For Kids · 4 min with a grown-up

God had a gentle talk with His people, like a dad sitting down with his kids. He wanted to remind them of something simple and good.

Today's Story

God's people had drifted away from Him. So God spoke to them through a man named Micah. But God did not start by yelling. He started softly, like a friend who is a little sad.

“My people,” God said, “what have I done to make you walk away from Me? Tell Me. Remember when I brought you out of that hard place and led you to a good land? I have always taken care of you.”

The people felt bad. They wanted to make it right. So they started to wonder: What can we bring God to make Him happy again?

“Should I bring Him a baby lamb?” one might say. “No, bring a thousand! Bring rivers of the finest oil! Bring the biggest present anyone has ever brought!”

But God did not want a giant pile of presents. He had already told them what He wanted, and it was something every single person could do.

God wanted them to be fair — to treat people the right way. He wanted them to love being kind — not just kind once, but happy to be kind again and again. And He wanted them to walk close to Him — staying near God instead of acting like they did not need Him.

That was it. Not a bigger present. A kinder heart.

A Big Word

Memory Verse

Talk About It

  1. Being fair means giving everyone their turn and treating them the right way. When was a time today that you got to be fair — or wished someone had been fair to you?
  2. God said He loves it when we love being kind, not just when we are kind one time. What is one kind thing you could do again and again this week?
  3. God did not want a giant present — He wanted their hearts. Why do you think God cares more about how we treat people than about how big our gifts are?
