Micah 5 for Kids

For Kids · 4 min with a grown-up

God makes one of the most famous promises in the whole Bible — that out of the tiny town of Bethlehem, a great Ruler will come for His people.

Today's Story

If you were going to pick a town for someone really important to come from, you'd probably pick a big, famous, exciting city. Right?

God did the opposite. He looked at a tiny little town called Bethlehem — so small that hardly anybody noticed it — and He said, “That one. Out of that little town, a great Ruler is going to come. He will lead My people, and his greatness will reach all the way to the ends of the earth.”

What kind of ruler would he be? Not a mean one. Not a bossy one. God said he would be like a shepherd — the kind who feeds his sheep, watches over them, and keeps them safe and strong. And he would bring something the world had been waiting for: peace.

Micah lived a long, long time before this Ruler was born. But God always keeps His promises. And one quiet night, in that very town of Bethlehem, a baby was born — just like God said. People still tell that story at Christmas.

God used the smallest town to send the greatest gift.

A Big Word

Memory Verse

Talk About It

  1. Have you ever felt too little or too small to matter? God used the tiniest town for His biggest promise — what does that tell you about how God sees you?
  2. God promised this Ruler would be like a shepherd who keeps his sheep safe. What is the nicest thing a really good leader does for the people who follow him?
  3. God made this promise a long, long time before it came true, and then He kept it. Why is it good to know that God always keeps His promises?
