Nahum 3 is the last chapter of the book. It is God's final word about the big bully city — and a gentle promise of rest for everyone it had hurt.
Today's Story
The city of Nineveh thought it would be strong and rich and on top forever. It had hurt so many people. It had been cruel for so long. And it never once said sorry.
So in this last chapter, God spoke very plainly. He said the bully city's time was over. All its meanness was finally coming to an end. The strong city that scared everybody would not scare anybody anymore.
God reminded the city that being big and rich does not make you safe. Other powerful cities had thought they could never be beaten, and they were wrong too. Trusting in walls and treasure and being a bully never keeps anyone safe in the end.
And there is a kind part hiding right here. All the people the bully city had hurt for years could finally breathe. They could rest. The thing that had been so scary was over. God had not forgotten a single one of them.
God is patient and slow to get angry. But God is also good and fair. He sees when people are hurt, and He brings their hard time to an end. With God, cruelty does not get the last word.
