Nehemiah 3 for Kids

For Kids · 3 min with a grown-up

Now the real work begins! This part of the Bible is like a big list of all the people who helped fix the wall.

Today's Story

It was time to build! But the wall around Jerusalem was so long that no single person could fix it alone. So everybody pitched in.

The priests started near their part of the city and built a special gate. Other families fixed the piece of wall right next to their own houses. Some folks repaired the gates and put the doors back on, with strong locks and bolts.

There were goldsmiths, who usually made shiny jewelry, now lifting heavy stones. There were perfume-makers with dusty hands. There were leaders and helpers, mothers and daughters, all working side by side.

Each family took the part of the wall closest to them. Nobody had to do the whole thing — they just did their part. And as all the little parts came together, the broken wall slowly began to stand up tall again.

One person could never have done it. But everyone, working together, could.

A Big Word

Talk About It

  1. What is one job at home where everybody has to do their part — like cleaning up or making dinner?
  2. Each family fixed the wall closest to them. What is a job that is close to you that you could help with today?
  3. How does a big job feel different when you have a whole team helping you?
