Proverbs 14 for Kids

For Kids · 4 min with a grown-up

Proverbs 14 keeps giving us short, wise sayings - this time about our feelings, our anger, and being kind to people who need help.

Today's Story

Proverbs 14 is another list of wise sayings. A few of them are about something we all feel: anger.

One saying tells us that a person who is slow to get angry is very wise. Anger is like a hot stove. If you touch it fast, you get burned. But if you take a breath and wait, the burning feeling cools down, and you can make a good choice instead of a mad one.

Another saying teaches us to be kind to people who have less than we do. When you share with someone who is hungry or has no toys, the Bible says you are really being kind to God Himself. He sees every single act of sharing.

And here is a quiet, gentle one: sometimes a person is laughing on the outside, but their heart is sad on the inside. That means the kid who looks fine might still be hurting. So we should be gentle with everybody, because we cannot always see what is going on in someone's heart.

A Big Word

Memory Verse

Talk About It

  1. What is something that makes you angry? What is one thing you could do to cool down before you say or do something you would be sorry for?
  2. Who is someone you know that has less than you - maybe less food, fewer toys, or fewer friends? How could you share with them?
  3. The proverb says people can smile on the outside but feel sad on the inside. How could you be extra kind to someone, just in case they are hurting?
