Romans 4 for Kids

For Kids · 4 min with a grown-up

Paul keeps writing his letter to God's family. To explain how we become God's friends, he tells a story about a man from long, long ago.

Today's Story

Paul wants God's family to understand something important, so he reminds them of a man named Abraham who lived a very long time ago.

One night, God made Abraham a giant promise. God said, “Abraham, you are going to have a huge family — as many children and grandchildren as there are stars in the sky!”

So God took Abraham outside and said, “Look up. Try to count the stars.” But there were too many! Thousands and thousands, sparkling everywhere.

Now here is the surprising part. Abraham was very, very old. He did not have even one child yet. The promise sounded impossible. But Abraham looked at all those stars and decided to trust God anyway. He thought, “God said it, so it will happen.”

Paul says that trusting was what made Abraham God's friend. Not because Abraham was perfect — he was not. But because he believed God could do what He promised.

And that, Paul says, is for us too. We become God's friends the very same way Abraham did — by trusting Him.

  2. God's promise to Abraham seemed impossible, but Abraham trusted anyway. Is there something you are hoping God will help with that feels too big?
  3. Abraham looked at the stars to remember God's promise. What could help YOU remember that God keeps His promises?
