Zechariah was a messenger for God. God showed him pictures at night — like dreams full of hope — about a city He loved and was going to make new again.
Today's Story
God's people had been far away from home for a long, long time. Now some of them were back, but their city was still broken and quiet. They felt small. They wondered if God had forgotten them.
So God sent a young man named Zechariah with a message. The very first thing God said was tender: “Come back to Me, and I will come back to you.” God wasn't far away. He was waiting, like a dad on the porch watching the road.
Then God showed Zechariah a picture in the night. Zechariah saw a man on a red horse, standing among some trees in a low, shadowy valley. Behind him stood more horses — red ones, brown ones, white ones.
“What are these?” Zechariah asked.
An angel said the horses had gone all over the earth, looking everywhere. And everywhere they looked, things were quiet and still.
Then the angel asked God, “How long until You comfort Your city?” And God answered with kind and gentle words. “I love My city very much,” He said. “I am going to come back to it. My house will be built again. Good things will spread out like a warm blanket.”
The people were not forgotten. God had been watching the whole time.
A Big Word
Memory Verse
Talk About It
- When was a time today, or this week, that you felt a little sad or left out? What helped you feel better?
- God said, “Come back to Me.” What do you think it looks like to come close to God — talking to Him, listening, telling Him you're sorry?
- The people thought God had forgotten them, but He was watching the whole time. How does it feel to know God never stops watching over you?
