Zechariah 2 for Kids

For Kids · 4 min with a grown-up

God keeps showing Zechariah pictures in the night. This one is about a city so loved and so full that God Himself becomes its wall.

Today's Story

Zechariah looked up and saw a man holding a long measuring line — like a giant tape measure.

“Where are you going?” Zechariah asked.

“I'm going to measure the city,” the man said, “to see how wide and how long it should be.”

But then an angel came hurrying over with wonderful news. “Run and tell that young man,” the angel said. “This city is going to be too big to measure! It will be full of people, and full of animals, spilling out in every direction. You won't even be able to build a wall big enough to fit everyone in.”

So how would the people stay safe with no wall? Here is the beautiful part. God said, “I myself will be a wall of fire all around them. And I will be the shining glory inside.”

Picture that. A whole city, wide open and happy, and God wrapped around it like warm, bright firelight — keeping every single person safe.

Then God said the best words of all. “Shout for joy! I am coming to live among you. You will be My people, and I will be right here with you.”

A Big Word

Memory Verse

Talk About It

  1. What makes you feel safe at home — a locked door, a night-light, a grown-up nearby? God said HE would be like a wall around His people. How is that even better?
  2. The city was going to be so full of people there wasn't room for a wall. Why do you think God wanted His city to be that full and that happy?
  3. God said, “I am coming to live among you.” If God lives close to us all the time, how might that change the way we go through our day?
