Zechariah 3 for Kids

For Kids · 4 min with a grown-up

In this night picture, God shows Zechariah how He takes away the dirty and gives us clean, bright clothes instead.

Today's Story

Zechariah saw a man named Joshua standing in front of God's angel. Joshua was a priest — one of God's special helpers. But his clothes were filthy. Muddy. Stained. He looked down at the floor, too ashamed to lift his head.

And someone was standing nearby pointing his finger, ready to say, “Look how dirty he is! He doesn't belong here!”

But God spoke first. He said to that finger-pointer, “Be quiet. I have chosen Joshua. He is like a stick I pulled right out of the fire before it could burn up.”

Then God looked at the angels standing close by. “Take off his dirty clothes,” He said. And then God turned to Joshua with the kindest words. “Look. I have taken your dirty clothes away. See? They're gone.”

The angels brought fresh, clean clothes — bright and white and beautiful — and they dressed Joshua in them. They even placed a clean turban on his head.

Joshua lifted his eyes. The dirt was gone. He was clean and new.

And God promised something even bigger was coming — a special servant who would make everything right, all in a single day.

Talk About It

  1. Have you ever gotten really muddy or messy playing outside? How good did it feel to get clean again afterward?
  2. Someone was pointing at Joshua, saying he didn't belong. But God said, “I chose him.” How does it feel to know God chooses you, even when you've done something wrong?
  3. God didn't just wipe off the dirt — He gave Joshua brand new clothes. What do you think it feels like to get a fresh start from God?
