God shows Zechariah a glowing golden lamp that never runs out of oil — a picture of how big jobs get done by God's help, not by our own strength.
Today's Story
The angel woke Zechariah up, like waking someone from a nap, and said, “Look! What do you see?”
Zechariah saw something beautiful. A tall golden lampstand, glowing with seven warm little lights, like seven tiny flames in a row. And on each side of it stood an olive tree, dripping golden oil straight into the lamp, so the lights would never, ever go out.
“What does it mean?” Zechariah asked.
The angel had a message for the people, who were trying to build God's house again and feeling far too small for such a big job. God said, “The work will get done. But not by being strong. Not by being mighty. It will get done by My Spirit — by My help.”
God was saying: you don't have to be the biggest or the strongest. I will be the oil that keeps your light shining. I will give you everything you need.
And God said one more kind thing. “Don't look down on small beginnings.” Even a tiny start, with God's help, grows into something wonderful. So they could begin, joyfully, even with small hands.
A Big Word
Memory Verse
Talk About It
- Is there something right now that feels too big or too hard for you to do? What is it?
- The lamp stayed bright because the oil never ran out. How is that like the way God keeps helping us when we feel tired or small?
- God said don't look down on small beginnings. What is one small good thing you could start today, even if it feels little?
