Lamentations 3:49 Meaning and Explanation

The weeping does not let up: 'Mine eye trickleth down, and ceaseth not, without any intermission.' The poet describes tears that flow on and on, with no break, no respite. His grief has settled into a continual stream, an unending overflow of sorrow for his people.

There is a holy persistence in this weeping, much like the call earlier in the book to give the eyes no rest. The poet will not let his people's suffering become old news or grow easy to bear. He keeps weeping until God acts, and the next verse tells us exactly what he is waiting for. His ceaseless tears are themselves a kind of prayer, a refusal to be comforted until the LORD himself looks down.
