Lamentations 3:50 Meaning and Explanation

Here is the object of all those ceaseless tears: 'Till the LORD look down, and behold from heaven.' The poet weeps until God turns his gaze toward his people again. The whole burden of his grief is gathered into this longing — that the LORD would look, would see, would no longer seem hidden behind the cloud.

This is the cry of faith that will not give up. The weeping is not aimless; it is directed toward heaven and waits for heaven's response. To pray 'till the LORD look down' is to keep crying out in confident expectation that he will. And Scripture testifies again and again that God does look down, that he hears the groaning of the captive and comes to deliver. The tears are sown in hope of a God who sees.
