Luke 13:13 Meaning and Explanation

To the word Jesus adds touch, laying His hands on a woman others likely avoided. The cure is instant — eighteen years undone in a moment — and her first upright act is praise: she glorified God.

The hands of Christ are not embarrassed by our afflictions. He touches what is bent, and the touch itself tells her she is not beyond reach. Her response models what healing is for: a back straightened so that a face can finally look up, and a voice long bowed toward the dust now lifted in worship. Every gift of God comes to completion this way — the loosed life becomes a praising life, and the synagogue hears doxology before it hears any debate.
