What Does Luke 13:31 Mean?
The same day some Pharisees come with a warning: Get thee out and depart, for Herod will kill thee. Jesus is traveling through territory ruled by Herod Antipas, who had already beheaded John the Baptist (Luke 9:9), so the threat is plausible, whatever moved the messengers to deliver it.
The warning sets the stage for one of the clearest statements Jesus makes about His own death. Threats from rulers do not steer His course; His path is fixed by the purpose of God, not by the malice of kings.
