What Does Luke 17:23 Mean?
Jesus foresees that the longing of verse 22 will create a market for counterfeits. In anxious times, voices multiply claiming the Son of man has appeared here or there — in some secret place, known to some inner circle. His command is flat: do not go after them, do not follow.
The instruction is mercy given in advance. Desperation makes the faithful vulnerable, and Christ removes all doubt: His true day will need no promoters and no directions, as the next verse says. Any appearing that must be hunted down in a hidden corner is not His. The disciple's safety in confusing days is not cleverness but a settled willingness to wait for what cannot be missed.
