Jesus gives the shortest of warnings: remember Lot's wife.

What Does Luke 17:32 Mean?

Three words, and a whole sermon. Lot's wife was nearly saved — out of Sodom, on the road, rescue in hand — when she looked back against the angel's word and became a pillar of salt (Genesis 19:26).

Jesus makes her a permanent memorial of the divided heart. She did not run back to Sodom; she only looked, and the look told where her treasure still lived. It is possible to walk in the company of the rescued while the heart drifts back down the road. Remember her — not with morbid fear, but as those who ask God daily for an undivided heart, facing forward toward Christ.
