What Does Luke 2:26 Mean?
The Spirit has given Simeon a personal promise: death will not come for him until his eyes have seen the Lord's Christ, the Anointed One whom God Himself would send. His remaining days are therefore a vigil; every morning might be the morning.
What a way to live, with one promise outstanding, certain that God will keep it before the end. Simeon's life shows that the Spirit speaks particular assurance to particular souls, and the promise shapes him: he waits where the Christ will come. To die having seen Christ is, for Simeon, to die content; to live looking for Him is already blessedness.
