What Does Luke 2:42 Mean?
At twelve, a boy of Israel stood at the threshold of adult responsibility for the law, and so Jesus accompanies His parents up to Jerusalem after the custom of the feast. It is the only scene Scripture gives us from His boyhood.
Luke shows the Son of God being brought up within the worship of His people: taken to the feast, taught the customs, included in the believing community as He comes of age. The detail honors every parent who steadily brings a child before God. The one glimpse we have of Jesus between infancy and manhood finds Him exactly where faithful nurture placed Him, at the feast of the Lord.
