What Does Luke 22:12 Mean?
An upper room was the best space in a house - quiet, private, above the street. This one was large and already furnished with table and couches, ready for thirteen men to recline at the feast. The disciples would gather in an upper room again after the resurrection (Acts 1:13).
God's provision here is generous beyond the minimum: not a corner but a large room; not bare but furnished. The Lord who said 'I go to prepare a place for you' (John 14:2) first allowed a place to be prepared for him. What he asks of his servants he has already arranged for them to accomplish.
