What Does Luke 22:14 Mean?
Passover began at sundown. Jesus takes his place at the table - reclining, as free people ate the feast - with the twelve around him, Judas included. Luke calls it simply 'the hour,' the time toward which the whole Gospel has been moving.
There is majesty in his calm: he sits down to meet the hour he has long foreseen. And there is mercy in the company he keeps: he breaks bread with the one who will betray him, the one who will deny him, and the ten who will flee. He still sits at table with imperfect disciples.
